NaNoWriMo Writing Update: October 22nd, 2022

by Miller C. Lashbrook

Today I begin a fun new writing journey. Today I am starting National Novel Writing Month aka NaNoWriMo! Now, you may be saying to yourself, “November is NaNoWriMo. Why are they starting in the middle of October?” Well, that, my friends, is because of a beautiful things called my wedding. I am getting married to the love of my life on November 20th and then we are honeymooning in NYC. So, there are a good 10 days in the middle of November that I will not be able to write a lot.

So, today (10 days early) I start my NaNoWriMo journey. I set out to write 50,000 words of an Urban Fantasy novel. In 2018 I participated in NaNoWriMo but did not meet my goal. I moved that month, spent lots of time for Thanksgiving with family, and just let the stress of being a new teacher distract me from my goal. This year I know I have taken all the precautions however to make sure that this NaNoWriMo is a successful one. I have lesson planned through the end of November already for work. I am starting 10 days early to avoid the issue of the wedding week, honeymoon, and Thanksgiving holiday. And I think most importantly for any NaNoWriMo challenger, I have had a lot of conversations with my partner about my goal so that I have a cheer leader at home.

This is also why my reviews have been a little lacking in the past two weeks. I will be writing written reviews for the She-Hulk finale soon. I also will definitely catch up on my House of Dragon reviews as the season wraps this weekend. And next Wednesday I will try to catch up on the Andor reviews as well. In the meantime, the podcast will still keep going of course with plenty of reviews and thoughts there.

I am going to be making writing update blog posts weekly throughout the NaNoWriMo process, sharing my successes and struggles.

I would love to see in the comments if anyone else is participating in NaNoWriMo and what they are doing to ensure their success. We got this!
