This trailer gets me so excited for this show. It looks like we are getting 12 streaming episodes at the level of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, my third favorite Star Wars movie. You can tell that this show was filmed with care and on location from the first shot of the trailer. If The Mandalorian was a Star Wars western, the show looks like a Star Wars Game of Thrones (The good seasons). This show looks gritty and real. It appears to be building off of what Rebels and Bad Batch did for building up the world of the Empire-controlled galaxy.
Before I get into the nitty-gritty of the trailer, let’s talk about the release date change. So, originally this show was set to premiere on August 31st, 2022. The show has officially been pushed back three weeks, to September 21st, 2022. This is a bummer that we will have to wait a little longer, but they did announce that we will get three episodes at once with the premiere. Many online are speculating that with the lower rating of Ms. Marvel (which premiered during the run of Obi-Wan Kenobi), Disney has decided that they want to avoid overlapped releases of Marvel and Star Wars projects. With She-Hulk: Attorney at Law premiering on August 17th, pushing the show back would at least make the shows overlap less. The only way for the shows to not overlap would be for She-Hulk to drop multiple of its episodes each week.
Now, about the trailer. This trailer really makes it seem like this show is less about the titular character of Cassian Andor and more about the rise of the Rebellion. I am interested to see how Stellan Skarsgard’s character factors into the story. Some scenes make him seem like a villain, but others make him look like an ally of Andor. I love his acting, so if he is more of an anti-hero, third-party character, I trust him to pull it off.
All of the planets in the trailer seem really well realized. Above all, I am so excited to see Coruscant during the Empire era. I am one of the outliers that enjoys the politics of the prequel trilogy.
I am really excited to dive back into the Galaxy once more; I love Star Wars.
